Health Claims
IMPOSSIBREW® makes every effort to remain compliant with UK & EU regulation surrounding nutrition and health claims. We refer to the Great Britain Nutrition & Health Claims Register – and the on‑hold claims list maintained by the ASA/CAP Code – to ensure that any claims we make are authorised. Frustratingly, there are many benefits of our ingredients that we can’t legally tell you about. However, we’ve highlighted the claims we can make below and provided links for further reading if you’d like to learn more.

On‑hold claims 🔍
Under UK rules, a number of botanical claims are currently on‑hold; this means that evidence has been submitted to EFSA but no opinion has yet been issued. The on‑hold claims below cannot be used in marketing, but we summarise the research here for information purposes only.
L‑Theanine (research summary)
- L‑Theanine is an amino acid found in tea. Studies show that it increases alpha brain‑wave activity associated with calm focus and relaxed alertness.
- When combined with caffeine, L‑theanine supports improved attention and accuracy without the jitters.
- Clinical research indicates that L‑theanine modulates neurotransmitters such as GABA, serotonin and dopamine, contributing to reduced stress and improved cognitive performance.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) – on‑hold IDs 2183, 2503 & 3251
- EFSA’s on‑hold submissions for ashwagandha cover claims relating to relaxation, emotional balance, cardiovascular support and adaptogenic properties.
- Randomised trials suggest that ashwagandha may reduce cortisol levels and stress, improve cognitive performance and promote relaxation without sedation.
- Mechanistic studies show that ashwagandha modulates the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis and has GABA‑mimetic and antioxidant effects that may underlie its stress‑relieving properties.
The above summaries are for educational purposes. These claims are currently on‑hold and cannot be used in marketing communications.
